Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle KStJ DL Physician and Author.

All writers of detective fiction owe inspiration to Conan Doyle. He wrote some fifty-six short stories as well as four books about Sherlock Holmes. He invented the dual role of detective and colleague, which appears in so many stories even today - it allows a dialogue about the clever detective’s internal motivations. How else, we would have to surmise? It allows a little argument, not enough to divert the story.

The setting was contemporaneous with so many scientific and administrative advances in the country and the police force in particular. Sherlock can justifiably be called the father of the fascinating science of forensics. Its criminal catching capacity which has developed from so many of the ideas described and the take-ups of arriving inventions.

Such an iconic figure has inspired many pastiches and much learned speculation. There are Sherlockian societies in the Americas, Europe, and Australasia, as well as Britain.

This duo of Scarlett and Watson is in homage to the master.
